Rewinding all six medals won by Auburn track and field at the SEC Indoor Championships
Auburn’s Kayinsola Ajayi set a national record in his home country with his gold-medal run. Here's a deeper look at that and all six podium finishes the Tigers earned at SEC Indoors.

Auburn’s Kayinsola Ajayi in 60 meters made an impact felt all the way on the other side of the world in his home country.
Ajayi on Saturday at the SEC Indoor Championships ran the 60-meter dash in a blistering 6.45 seconds — matching the NCAA’s all-time record, matching the all-time record for the entire continent of Africa, and setting a new best mark in his home country of Nigeria.
Ajayi, a junior from Lagos Ikorodu, Nigeria, won gold at the SEC Indoor Championships for the second time in his career. He was also the champion in 2024, running a 6.60, but as a sophomore was disqualified by a false start.
Over the weekend, Ajayi got his get-back, torching his way into the finals with a 6.52 in preliminaries before his record-setting run in the finals.
He’s just the fourth NCAA athlete to hit a 6.45 in collegiate competition, following Terrence Jones of Texas Tech in 2022, Christian Coleman of Tennessee in 2017, and Leonard Myles-Mills in 1999 — the last of whom did it at altitude.
Better news for Auburn: Ajayi wasn’t alone on the podium. Teammate Israel Okon finished third in the 6.54 to win bronze at SEC Indoors.
